Marta’s Daycare Program

Although we adhere to any applicable Ministry regulations, this childcare program is not licensed by the Government of Ontario, as such, we do not participate in the subsidy program. The daycare operates independently of Jardin Infantil Academy.

The daycare program in Toronto’s High Park neighbourhood is based on several fundamental beliefs designed to help children reach their developmental milestones and beyond.

First, we believe that children learn through play and hands-on experiences, and that when activities are based on children’s interests, learning happens naturally and effortlessly. We get to know your children, learn about their interests, and then develop programs full of activities ready for their participation, exploration, and enjoyment.

Second, research shows that the child’s developing brain has a natural ability to absorb a wide range of information and that once a particular area of the brain is activated, this brain area remains open, active, and able to absorb and store more information throughout life. This is why we have added a multilingual component to the program, with an introduction to French and Spanish.

The program is rich in outdoor experiences. Your child will build snowmen in the winter; jump in puddles in the spring; cool off in a splash pad in the summer; and rake a giant pile of leaves in the fall. They will also enjoy:

Picnic

Camping

Hiking

Gardening

Yoga

Every evening, parents/guardians receive a daily summary of activities and pictures.
The daily summaries might share something like this:

A Winter Day at Marta’s Daycare Program

Today we went for a walk to High Park. There we did our circle time. We learned that “Q” is for the word “Quiet.” We listed the times that are important to be quiet. One example was when our teacher or parents are speaking to us. We also talked about the triangle shape. We made it with our hands and with sticks on the snow. We counted how many sides this shape has as well. Right after we counted logs until the number 14, our number of the week. We are so good at counting!

We had fun pretending to ride trains at different speeds. We rolled on the snow, climbed logs, and practiced our balance too. Then we returned indoors.

Before lunch and our naps, we had a nice time playing with musical toys and read a book called “Animal Friends.”

In the afternoon, we returned outside and had fun creating ice jewels using food colouring and water. We used primary colours and named them in English, Spanish and French. Then we mixed those colours and made new ones: purple, green, and orange. We left the coloured water outside to freeze so tomorrow morning we’ll return and find jewels!

A Summer Day at Marta’s Daycare Program

We began today’s program with a walk down to the frog pond. There we got to see frogs and ducks, explore the rocks, and learn about some of the berries growing nearby.

We walked back towards our picnic site at 11 am, where we took a bathroom/potty/diaper change break and set up for lunch. Once all the children were done eating, we set up the tents and did our lesson. We sang our ABCs and counted to 20. Our letter of the week is R, our number of the week is 2, and our shape of the week is the diamond, which we learned to make with our hands. Then all the children were ready for their naps.

Nap time was over at 3 pm, and the children woke up and went to the bathroom. Then we had our snack and walked to the Nature Centre where we did some digging in the dirt and climbed on the logs, and pretended they were rocket ships.

We ended the day at the splash pad, where we cooled off together until it was time to go home.
