Fall Fun at Home: Easy Thanksgiving & Halloween Cooking Ideas for Kids

Fall is the perfect time to get cozy in the kitchen with your little ones! Whether you’re celebrating Thanksgiving or gearing up for Halloween, cooking together is a fun way to bond, build skills, and create lasting memories.

Thanksgiving Activity: Make-Your-Own Mini Apple Crisps

Get your kids involved in a sweet seasonal recipe that’s simple and hands-on!

What You’ll Need (makes approx. 6 mini apple crisps):
  • 3 medium apples (peeled and diced)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp white sugar (optional, if apples are very tart)
  • ¾ cup rolled oats
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • Optional: a pinch of salt and a sprinkle of nutmeg
Kid-Friendly Tasks:
  • Peel and chop apples (with supervision)
  • Stir together the oat topping ingredients
  • Spoon apples and topping into muffin tins
Why It Works:

This activity encourages measuring, mixing, and sensory learning — plus, it smells amazing while baking!

Bake at 350°F for 20–25 minutes or until golden and bubbly.

💡 Bonus Tip: Let kids handwrite place cards or thank-you notes to go with each apple crisp if you’re having guests!

Halloween Activity: Spooky Banana Ghost Pops

A no-bake treat that’s perfect for little chefs!

🍌 What You’ll Need (makes 6 pops):
  • 3 ripe bananas, peeled and halved
  • ½ cup vanilla Greek yogurt or ½ cup melted white chocolate
  • 12 mini chocolate chips (for eyes)
  • 6 popsicle sticks
👩‍🍳 Steps:
  1. Insert a popsicle stick into the cut end of each banana half.
  2. Dip each banana into yogurt or melted chocolate until fully coated.
  3. Add 2 mini chocolate chips as spooky little eyes.
  4. Place on a parchment-lined tray and freeze for at least 1 hour.
Make It Extra Fun:
  • Add Halloween sprinkles
  • Create candy mouths or goofy faces
  • Let kids name them (“Ghosty Gus,” “Spooky Sue,” “Wiggly Wanda”…)

These make a perfect snack for a Halloween party — or just a festive after-school treat!
